With this course being predominantly creative with elements of research finding a research method to use throughout this project was slightly more challenging than I anticipated. However, something I didn't know was that there is actually a research method based on the idea of "not knowing"(Fortum, R. 2009). The idea behind the methodology of "not knowing" (Fortum, R. 2009) is essentially to "use the states of ignorance, doubt, block and failure within the decision making process"(Fortum, R. 2009 ). This research method includes many different ways in which you can explore and research and this research method has inspired some of my practical response.
A strength I have is research but I have always struggled to turn my findings into something practical and this research method has assisted me in being able to make the link between written research and a creative and practical response.
One theory is Ekphrasis; it is "the use of detailed description of a work of visual art as a literary device" (Google, 2022) so if I were to do this it would need to be based on my own art work for it to work. So to actually do this I did some photography and abstract art as well as some printing to use as the source and inspiration for ekphrasis. But to also reinforce the creative motivation rather than just writing a description I decided to Ekphrastic poetry.
