Creative Media Project: What inspires me

Alongside what inspires me another question is who inspires me? Both of these questions lead me to deciding on creating a documentary. Documentaries have always been something I watch, learning about new topics in an enjoyable and entertaining way has always been something I love and documentaries used this which is what made me like them so much. With documentaries involving so many different topics and people in different styles it really fascinates me. Who inspires me? In terms of the industry I want to go into it is very male dominated so was hard to find female inspiration due to the significant difference in numbers; one main women in the industry being Stacey Dooley her friendly persona was extremely engaging as well as the topics she covered and this was something that made me to want to working in the industry. As well as Dooley other presenters include Ben Fogle, David Attenborough and Michael Palin despite these examples being men the way they approached topics and engaged the audience is something that if I got in the industry I would want to aspire to do.

Popular documentaries: According to IMDb (2022) Popular documentaries include The Tinder Swindler and Planet Earth II however despite there popularity amongst the audience they didn't receive awards like an "Academy Awards, USA" (IMDb, 2022) which documentaries like An Inconvenient Truth received. So what Makes these documentaries popular? After personally watching all of these documentaries it was hard to compare and define what makes them good as they all had completely different topics and styles. The Tinder Swindler is a typical Netflix style documentary more dramatic by default compared to Planet Earth II which is a series documentary that focuses on a different set of animals each episode which is again different to An Inconvenient Truth which combines the seriousness of the issue and an emotional and comical perspective using one persons life that person being Al Gore. A massive factor which I feel makes them popular is the content because it is stuff that the audience would never normally see or talk about, in terms of An Inconvenient Truth the topic was ground breaking at the time and Al Gore's clever way of telling the story and facts was extremely effective which is why I believe it got the acknowledgment it did. However, this view is subjective and my personal opinion which will always be the way due to the audience having different interests and interpretations of the work and this is something that I will need to be aware of when making my documentary.
