Week 1: The introduction

An introduction to professional practices

After having a brief introduction about the first assignment brief we were given a research task to look into how people within the creative industries get into it and how they promote/present themselves. As I want to become a presenter I used this as an opportunity to become aware of potential processes that I may need to know when going into the industry.

My first step was to look at initial steps on getting into the job. Using a website called Prospects (2021) which gave me a brief insight to what is expected within the role of a broadcast presenter; the site talks about starting off in the industry at a lower position like being a runner and also work experience which unions like BECTU offer along side many companies. With the development of social media and its growth in popularity celebrities have used this as an advantage to self promote. An example I was looking at was Rylan Clark-Neal; starting of as a contestant on X-factor back in 2012 and winning big brother the following year (EssexLive, 2021) since the hosting many well know shows, some of which being promoted on social media as well as Rylan being very active on twitter with a post as recent as 5 days ago (Twitter, 2021) his twitter consists of several posts promoting a show in which he presents; Ready steady cook one post getting 1.6k likes. From this small amount of research I intend to use this as some initial steps into trying to get into my chosen industry being entertainment. I intend to create a professional online presence using platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn to showcase what skills and work I have been involved in.

After this short research task we them begun to think about ideas for our Interim show. My initial ideas are presented in the mind map below, I wanted to have some based around Worcester and the course and some that don't involve it to allow as much creativity as possible as the show is a way to show our creativity to the public.
