CMED4003- CREATIVE CONCEPT

Before returning to lectures I wanted to spend time reflecting on the previous module and think about where I could take my idea with further development.

My initial project for CMED4001 was to explore my ideas using different mediums (particularly those I have never used, or don't use often) for which I feel I did successfully. Despite not going with my initial practical output idea a new research method influenced and shaped my progress through the module and is something I want to try to continue throughout this module.

For this module I want to focus on my initial inspiration/idea from the last module. I'm aiming to focus on domesticated female roles and how this can impact society. Looking at the pressures stereotypes can create. How the idea of woman can be (and typically) created from a male viewpoint and this idea is supported by Carson, F and Pajaczkoska, C (2000) in the book Feminist visual culture. I am thinking about using film as my chosen media text to analyze and investigate; with the potential to do a comparison between two films or two characters. Something that I have noticed already and want to investigate further is that women who don't conform to societal stereotypes are often portrayed as villainous, lonely, un-attractive or un-desirable. I want to see if this is something that is consistently portrayed with modern media and if it has had any impact on society in and shape or form.

Workshop:

1) What do you like doing in the making process you use?

For me the making process is split into two categories; the initial idea/planning and the end result. I enjoy that the end result takes it's own form and shape during this process based on knowledge found about my topic which then informs how my final project looks and turns out.

2) What matters to you most in your project?

My message/understanding is what matters to me most. How women are represented in society was a massive influence in my life both personally and academically and getting the message in my work is important.

3) What questions does the work you did last semester open for you?

How does the media texts inform society and is there evidence of this? Is there a dominant stereotype? What do other academics think about these stereotypes?

4) Consider "What if" in relation to your project.

What if... it was spoken poetry, the title was made out of fruit, the poetry acted as a narration to moving visuals.
